Fun Facts About Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls, one of the most spectacular natural wonders in the world, is located on the Zambezi River, forming the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe in southern Africa. Known locally as “Mosi-oa-Tunya,” meaning “The Smoke That Thunders,” the falls are renowned for their immense size and beauty.

Height: About 108 meters (354 feet).

Width: Approximately 1,708 meters (5,604 feet), making it one of the largest waterfalls in the world.

Water Flow: During the peak rainy season, around 500 million liters of water plunge over the edge every minute, creating a powerful mist and an audible roar that can be heard from miles away.

Unique Features:

  • Rainforest: The mist from the falls sustains a lush rainforest around it, creating a unique ecosystem.
  • Livingstone Island: Named after the famous explorer David Livingstone, who was the first European to see the falls in 1855, this island offers a unique vantage point for viewing the waterfall.
  • A naturally formed pool at the edge of the falls, where adventurous visitors can swim close to the edge during low water levels.

Activities:
Adventure Sports: Visitors can enjoy bungee jumping, white-water rafting, zip-lining, and helicopter tours.
Wildlife: The surrounding areas are rich in wildlife, with safaris offering views of elephants, buffalo, and a variety of bird species.

“Victoria Falls is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular destination for both adventure seekers and nature lovers alike, drawing tourists from all over the world for its breathtaking beauty and thrilling activities.”
